Svaroopa® Yoga Themes
Daily Practice - Beginning Students are very eager to learn and want to be able to do some yoga at home. Daily Practice gives you a sequence of poses you can remember to repeat at home. The process of opening and releasing deeply held tensions will move at a much faster rate with a daily practice and it can really enrich your life. Lower Spinal Release - We use certain poses to get predictable and reliable effects to open the spine starting with the tailbone, sacrum, lumbar spine and ribcage. These effects extend throughout the whole body, giving the student a deep inner experience as well as a quieting of the mind. Upper Spinal Release - In this Svaroopa® yoga theme we continue to open the lower spine concentrating on the tailbone as well as the vertebrae behind the heart which is the key to opening the neck and shoulders. We also focus on finding strength in the body and how to move through life without tightening the spine. Abdominals - Most people learned to use their deep abdominal muscles connected to the spine for strength training and physical appearance. The purpose of this theme is to release your spinal muscles and then discover how your abdominals automatically work for you when your spine releases. Backbends - This is the most important direction of movement for students to learn. As we age the body begins to contract and slope forwardly. Sometimes vertebrae fuse in this position. Backbends are important to keep the spine supple and flexible in order to prevent this natural forward contraction. Most people are afraid of backbends and fear being hurt. We warm up and prepare the spine for opening, then take you through lower and upper backbends. Students feel longer, taller and more open. This takes you into a deeper understanding of your own body. Standing - A very active Svaroopa® Yoga theme with only light sweating. It is physically challenging and faster, but does not tighten the spine. Students learn how to stand in their bones, structurally grounded in the body. You develop strength and stamina in the poses and learn to take yoga into your everyday life. Forward Bends - These poses are deeply effective in opening the spine and create a lot of change. Relapse is a possibility and can be painful, but it can be a good thing, because students get the changes they need. We say repeat the same pose you relapsed with until you can keep the openings. Relapse is a sign of rapid progress. Balance and Inversions - Using many classical poses students are instructed to find their point of balance within while not tightening the spine. Neck and Shoulders - Students neck and shoulders automatically improve when their spine is released. We teach poses that target the neck and shoulders while opening the whole spine. Classical Poses - A physically challenging Svaroopa® Yoga theme taking you through full versions of classical poses instead of variations. Vinyasa - We link poses together in a continuous sequence. Moving and breathing while opening the spine. It is living yoga in motion. Seated Poses and Twists - The most important theme in preparing students for meditation and twist are very blissful. All the poses in Svaroopa® yoga prepare you for this final theme. Students are able to sit comfortably in the bliss of their own being which is the meaning of Svaroopa®. Students love all the Svaroopa® Yoga themes!!!
