Health Benefits of Yoga

It's quite common for people to ask about the health benefits of yoga. After all if you are planning to invest your time and energy in a yoga program you are entitled to know exactly how this type of workout routine is going to improve your health and make your life better.

While there are many who still think of yoga as “just stretching” there is much more than just a few stretches that are involved. Through yoga workouts you will learn about how your mind, body and spirit all function together to provide you with optimal health benefits. Students are taught safe, gentle movements with body poses that will improve and increase their ability to bend, stand, sit and stretch.

Individuals who engage in a regular yoga program become more attuned to their bodies; they have fewer joint problems; and overall – health benefits are improved. The quiet meditation and gentle energy that accompanies a yoga class soothes the mind, helps with concentration and lowers anxiety levels.

Even the breathing techniques that you will learn through yoga are integrated in the class because the body absorbs oxygen needed to restore and rejuvenate sending it to all your cells. The mind and nervous system are soothed in the process. When the breathing is smoothed out it becomes rhythmic, calming and healing in all ways.

Here are some additional health benefits of yoga that you should know about:

Flexibility

Did you realize that you can improve the flexibility of your overall body with yoga? It doesn't matter if you are 10, 110 or somewhere in between…people of all ages can participate in yoga classes and can enjoy an increase in movement and joint flexibility as just some of the health benefits of yoga.

Balance

Yoga is an excellent methodology that you can use to develop and improve your body's balance. When you study yoga the instructor will assist you in learning a series of gentle as well as challenging body poses. These poses are referred to as “asanas”.

Although it may take you several weeks (or even a month) to begin to feel comfortable with some of the poses, you will soon notice that your sense of balance and body positioning improve and the poses become easier and more refined.

Body Training

When you begin Svaroopa® yoga classes you're getting ready to open your body in a new way, but the techniques are gentle and low impact which makes them perfect exercises for anyone to do. General strength, flexibility and balance will all improve with each yoga lesson and the health benefits prevail. Svaroopa® is a yoga style that concentrates on precise alignments. The poses have a grounding effect allowing you to experience being centered within your Self. When you are grounded in your bones you are able to develop strength and stamina, posture is improved; body awareness is increased, as well mental clarity, peace and joy. You will even get a better night's sleep. There are numerous health benefits of yoga you'll discover.

Come and try a Svaroopa® yoga class. You may prefer a private session instead of a class. Yoga Therapy sessions are available when your in pain and need more than a class or want to go deeper within. You are worth it!
